With the recent escalation of tensions between India and Canada, Trudeau has accused the Indian government of making a ‘fundamental error’ as he accused it of supporting a campaign of violence against Canadians on Canadian soil.1

I do not wish to go into speculation on Hardeep Singh Nijjar’s killing because there is no public evidence being presented by Canada. While I’m fairly confident that the Indian Government orchestrated it, in this blog, I want to talk about Canada’s double standards when it comes to prosecuting foreign governments.

  1. Israel killed seven foreign aid workers in Gaza, one of whom was a dual U.S.-Canadian citizen.2
  2. Israel killed an elderly Canadian couple fleeing its bombardment in Lebanon.3

Yet, despite mass killings and human rights violations, Canada has always supported Israel.

“to the members of the Jewish community who spoke with us today: Thank you. Thank you for speaking so candidly about your pain, your anger, and your grief. I hear you. I want you to know that our commitment to you – and to Israel, as a Jewish and democratic state – is unwavering.”

It should be obvious that Israel isn’t a democratic state; voting is the very basic right in a bourgeois democracy. Yet, people living in the West Bank and Gaza can’t vote in Israeli elections. Neither can all the Palestinians expelled by the Zionists during the Nakba.

I’m not even addressing the fact that Israel has confined over two million Palestinians in what is a concentration camp that is Gaza and has killed at least 42,000.

Why do I mention all this? Because Canada does not prioritize the well-being of its citizens, its residents, or human rights. It is primarily concerned with its interests, and the current government finds India an easy target. India isn’t as economically significant as China nor as closely aligned with Canada as Israel.

It is also evident that India is not particularly concerned about its relationship with Canada, especially since it is cooperating with the U.S for similar actions to those it allegedly conducted there.4

Canada allows extremist elements from various countries

Canada recently listed the Palestinian charity, Samidoun, as a ‘terrorist’ group. Its crime? Raising funds for the PFLP, a communist, secular resistance group fighting against Israeli colonialism.5

Yet, an Ukranian Nazi was given standing ovation at the Parliament.6

It is clear that Canada’s foreign policy decisions are not driven by a human rights but by strategic interests. This selective enforcement shows a deeper hypocrisy with respect to its stance on international law and ‘rules based order’, Canada picks and chooses which countries to pursue based on its own agenda.

That’s all.
